I. CẤU TRÚC CHUNG CỦA 1 BỨC THƯ

Đầu tiên, chúng ta cần hiểu rõ một bức thư điển hình sẽ có cấu trúc như thế nào. Một bức thư bằng tiếng Anh sẽ bao gồm 3 phần chính:

1. Chào hỏi (Greetings)

Nêu trực tiếp tên người nhận email. Tùy thuộc vào mối quan hệ giữa người gửi và người nhận sẽ chọn cách xưng hô khác nhau.

2. Trình bày nội dung (Body)

Nội dung chính mà người gửi muốn truyền tải đến người nhận (yêu cầu thêm thông tin, yêu cầu bồi thường, xin lỗi/ đề nghị, …)

3. Chào kết thúc (Ending)

Đây là phần cuối trong một email. Phần này bao gồm câu chào kết thúc (tùy theo mối quan hệ giữa người gửi và người nhận mà sử dụng mẫu câu thân thiện (informal) hay trang trọng (formal), tên người gửi thư, chức danh hoặc bộ phận làm việc trong công ty (nếu có).

II. CẤU TRÚC PET WRITING PART 2

Thông thường, loại thư mà phần 2 bài thi Viết PET CAMBRIDGE yêu cầu là thư thân mật, thí sinh viết trong khoảng 35-45 từ, tức là 3-4 câu. Tiêu chí để đạt điểm cao phần này đó là đảm bảo trả lời đủ thông tin đề bài yêu cầu, và tuân thủ đúng cấu trúc của 1 bức thư.

Đề bài: You have invited your Irish friend Shane to stay with you next week, but you now have to put off this visit.

Write a card to send to Shane. In your card, you should

• apologise to Shane
• explain why the visit has to be delayed
• suggest a convenient time to meet.

Write 35-45 words.

Dear Shane,

As you know, a few days ago I invited you to visit me next week. I’m sorry but I need to delay it because there is my sister’s birthday party that day.

Could you come here on the 7th of May?

Đề bài: You are going away for the long weekend with your friend, Gina.

Write an e-mail to her. In your e-mail, you should

• offer to buy the bus tickets before you travel
• suggest what bus to catch
• arrange to meet Gina at the bus station.

Write 35-45 words.

TRẢ LỜI:

Dear Gina,

Shall I get the bus tickets for the weekend in advance? I think the best bus to catch is the one at 10.45. I suggest meeting on Friday morning at 10.30 at terminal 5.

Đề bài: A friend, Miguel, borrowed your tent three weeks ago and hasn’t returned it yet.

Write a note to Miguel. In your note, you should

• remind him that he has your tent
• ask him to return it
• explain why you need it.

Do you remember that you borrowed my tent three weeks ago? Can you give it back to me soon, please? I need it before next Friday as I’m going camping with some friends.

Đề bài: You are visiting a city and you buy a postcard.

Write a postcard to your Scottish friend Alastair. In your postcard, you should

• explain how you traveled to this city
• tell Alastair where in the city you are staying
• say what you want to do in the city.

Hello Alastair,

I’m in Amsterdam, a beautiful city. I came by train from Den Haag. I’m staying in a lovely hotel near the sea. I would like to see everything, but I only have a few days. This afternoon I’ll go to a gallery.

Đề bài: You have arranged to go to the circus with your French friend Jean today,

but you won’t be able to go.

Write an e-mail to Jean. In your e-mail, you should

• apologise to Jean
• explain why you won’t be able to go to the circus
• suggest another activity that you can do together next weekend.

Write 35-45 words.

TRẢ LỜI:

Hi Jean,

I’m really sorry but I won’t be able to go to the circus with you today. I haven’t finished my math project yet and it’s due tomorrow. How about going to the cinema next weekend instead? Saturday’s the best for me.
